At the Uganda National Association of the Deaf (UNAD), we believe in partnerships that go beyond service—partnerships that recognize diversity, celebrate inclusion, and foster community. It was with great joy that we recently welcomed a team from MTN Uganda during their 2023 Customer Appreciation Week.
MTN’s visit to the UNAD headquarters was more than a routine engagement—it was a powerful gesture of solidarity with the Deaf community. As part of their commitment to recognizing every customer, MTN made it a point to connect with our members, listen to their experiences, and share in their stories.
In a tweet that resonated with many, MTN Uganda shared, “In the spirit of diversity and inclusion, as part of the 2023 customer appreciation week, we paid a courtesy visit to our customers in one of our communities.” This gesture reflects the values we advocate for every day—that accessibility, empathy, and inclusion must be at the heart of service delivery.
During their visit, our team shared insights into the work we do at UNAD—empowering the Deaf community through advocacy, education, and skills development. We also discussed ways in which businesses like MTN can continue to integrate Uganda Sign Language into their customer service experiences to better serve Deaf clients.
This meaningful exchange affirmed our belief that when companies truly listen to their customers—especially those with special needs—remarkable progress can be made. We are grateful to MTN Uganda for recognizing the importance of inclusion and for making the effort to engage with the Deaf community directly.
To everyone at MTN Uganda: thank you for your time, your kindness, and your commitment to building a more inclusive society. We look forward to more collaborations in the future.
To our followers and partners: let’s continue working together to make sure every voice—spoken or signed—is heard, valued, and celebrated.
